Quavo’s first solo project in over three years has finally been released in his third studio album, titled Qrömelife. Executive-produced by Pharrell Williams, the album has reportedly been in the works for about a year and a half. Recording sessions took place all over the world, from yachts in Miami to the Louis Vuitton headquarters in Paris, where Huncho and Skateboard P were hard at work creating a new sound.
It is arguably his most stacked album from a featured-artist perspective. Superstars like Future, Justin Timberlake, and T.I. appear with guest verses throughout. Even A$AP Rocky and Tyler, The Creator reunite as “WANG$AP” on “BABY BREATH.” The song features Tyler’s self-proclaimed “best verse of all time,” which is certainly up for debate. It features repetitive lyrics and a verse that lacks true depth from such a rap superstar.
The album also features Quavo’s first collaboration with former Migos partner Offset in five years on the track “Away.” The two celebrate their reunion through verses about rising from the bottom to massive heights of success.
Qrömelife explores Quavo’s life throughout the extended period since the passing of fellow Migos member Takeoff in 2022. The birth of his daughter has given him a newfound sense of motivation toward his work ethic.
Those who are used to Pharrell’s experimental beats are sure to enjoy his production throughout the album, but something about it feels a bit hollow. The beats almost feel halfhearted without any serious layering. Whether this was intentional remains unclear, but it certainly serves as a head-scratcher when comparing his work to an album like Let God Sort Em Out.
